Matilda Flood
Matilda Flood is a freelance illustrator and surface designer based in Medway, Kent.
Matilda illustrates a wide range of subjects, drawing inspiration from the richness and detail of the Victorian era and incorporating contemporary interpretations of historical narratives.
Her formal training began with a Foundation Diploma in Visual Communication at the University for the Creative Arts, Rochester (2018–2019). Building on this, she pursued a BA (Hons) in Illustration and Animation at UCA Canterbury (2019–2022), graduating with First Class Honours.
Since then, Matilda has established herself as a freelance illustrator and workshop facilitator, collaborating with local communities while continuing to expand her professional practice. Over the past four years, she has developed a particular focus on botanical illustration and surface design, with a growing portfolio of work in interiors, including bespoke fabric and wallpaper designs.
Her clients have included The Royal Guild of Tobacconists and Tobacco Pipe Makers (The Livery Company), Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Brook Theatre, Chatham.
Looking ahead, Matilda aims to further develop her practice within surface and interior design, creating distinctive, art-led pieces that bridge the gap between illustration and functional design for both private and commercial clients.
